At St. Aloysius Gonzaga Secondary School, the Science department is not just a place to memorize formulas but it’s a launchpad for curiosity, creativity, and real-world problem-solving. The department comprises of four subjects; Biology, Physics, computer studies, and Chemistry. Both of the four subjects are optional, of the 3 sciences learners are allowed to pick either all or 2, computer studies is stroked with French and business and the learner picks one.
The department has 7 teaching staff and 1 lab technician who are qualified, hardworking, committed, and dedicated to ensuring that the learner is well-equipped in the science subjects.
The department has 5 fully equipped modern Laboratories, 2 for computers and 3 each for the other remaining subjects with a preparation room. Practical teaching is an integral part of our teaching and this makes learning of sciences an exciting, enjoyable, and memorable experience for our students. Each Laboratory has fixed up-to-date equipment for digital content learning. This has helped not only make Science subjects exciting but also has helped demystify some abstract concepts that the learners do not understand.
The department organizes internal contests regularly and the students attend external contests in various other schools. These enable students to have an opportunity to inculcate critical values such as unity, responsibility, integrity, and respect among others as well as the necessary skills for learning, such as communication and collaboration, critical thinking and problem-solving, creativity and self-efficacy
