Clubs and Societies Department

The school has the following club and societies:WILDLIFE-They engage in activities such as rearing rabbits, chicken and cultivation of kales. The club has also registered its members with the KWS (Kenya Wildlife Service).SCIENCE-The aim of the club is to help learners develop a positive attitude towards the 3 sciences i.e. Biology, Chemistry and Physics. The members also participate in the science and engineering fair by coming up with various science projects.ST JOHN’S AMBULANCE-The members engage in activities such as offering first aid services and they work hand in hand with the scouts.DOMESTIC CLUB-They engage in activities such as cooking various foods including baking. The patrons share different recipes with the members. Apart from cooking, they also do tailoring including embroidery and make/design door mats.GIRL POWER-In this club, the girls learn about their hygiene and tackle topics like self-awareness, self-confidence and how to approach life in general as a girl. The patrons try to enlighten the girls since they are more vulnerable than the boys and they face different challenges in life.LITURGY-The members mostly engage in spiritual activities such as retreats, recollections, YCS (Young Catholic Students) rallies and they participate in school masses by singing in the school choir. SCOUTS-The members engage in activities like raising the flag during the school assembly days on Fridays and they also attend the scout’s Founder’s Day annually. The also attend scouts’ camps.DRAMA AND MUSIC-The members participate in the drama festivals in first term and the music festivals in second term. H.O.D: Mr. Vincent MadoyaIt’s well known that all work without play makes jack a dull boy. Sport is very critical in the physical and mental development of the learner. The games department aims at developing the learner outside the confines of the classroom. The department is well equipped with the necessary equipment to ensure that all the learners can participate in different sports activities. Some of the sports activities offered by the school include: badminton, table tennis, volleyball, football, hockey, athletics, cross-country, netball and handball. The department also enables the students to compete internally and externally.

Science Department

At St. Aloysius Gonzaga Secondary School, the Science department is not just a place to memorize formulas but it’s a launchpad for curiosity, creativity, and real-world problem-solving. The department comprises of four subjects; Biology, Physics, computer studies, and Chemistry. Both of the four subjects are optional, of the 3 sciences learners are allowed to pick either all or 2, computer studies is stroked with French and business and the learner picks one.The department has 7 teaching staff and 1 lab technician who are qualified, hardworking, committed, and dedicated to ensuring that the learner is well-equipped in the science subjects.The department has 5 fully equipped modern Laboratories, 2 for computers and 3 each for the other remaining subjects with a preparation room. Practical teaching is an integral part of our teaching and this makes learning of sciences an exciting, enjoyable, and memorable experience for our students. Each Laboratory has fixed up-to-date equipment for digital content learning. This has helped not only make Science subjects exciting but also has helped demystify some abstract concepts that the learners do not understand. The department organizes internal contests regularly and the students attend external contests in various other schools. These enable students to have an opportunity to inculcate critical values such as unity, responsibility, integrity, and respect among others as well as the necessary skills for learning, such as communication and collaboration, critical thinking and problem-solving, creativity and self-efficacy

From stationery and textbooks to cleaning supplies, electrical fittings, and examination materials, the stores play a vital role in supporting the smooth running of day-to-day academic and administrative operations.Managed by a dedicated storekeeper, the stores are organized and regularly updated to maintain accurate inventory records. Items are received, labeled, and issued through a well-documented process that ensures transparency and accountability. Regular stock-taking exercises and proper documentation have strengthened trust and coordination between departments and the administration.In recent years, the school has adopted more structured procurement and storage practices to meet the growing needs of both staff and students. The stores continue to be a backbone of efficiency—ensuring that learning resources, maintenance tools, and teaching aids are available whenever needed, ultimately contributing to the school's mission of academic excellence and operational effectiveness.

Mathematics Department

Welcome to the Mathematics Department of St. Aloysius Gonzaga Secondary School. The importance of mathematics in career choices cannot be over emphasize, as the knowledge gained in learning mathematics is applied across different field and to this reason most of countries has made mathematics compulsory up to certain level in there education system, Some amended there education acts to ensure some form of mathematics is compulsory up to 18years in order to spur the development of different sectors of economy. And this applies even to Kenya as a Nation Where Mathematics is compulsory up to Form four, in which the average age of the learner is about 18 years. Despite being a compulsory Subject in our education system (8.4.4), most students have a negative attitude towards the subject and lack prerequisite skills in the subject. As a department, we have put in place programmes such as daily mathematics quizzes, group work, peer teaching, exposing learners to internal and external contests and symposiums, among many others and approaches to enable learners to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills. Our major aim is to demystify mathematics, motivate students to like it and aim very high in the subject. The commitment and dedication of the teachers who are putting a lot of effort into the supervision of students and increasing contact hours are great. This has resulted in a marked improvement in the subject's performance. The learners have also acquired a positive attitude towards the subject. And at the beginning of this year, 2025, Business Studies was calculated in Mathematics as one of the subjects in the Department. The major focused in business studies this year has been on ways of motivating learners in selecting Business studies as one of their elective subjects, since it has a foundation that many careers are anchored on.

Graduates Department

The Graduates ProgramThe graduates’ program is an after high school initiative designed to journey with our students until university completion. We strive to develop and mold our graduates to be assertive and competitive global citizens. To achieve this, the graduates participate in different programs for skill and personal development, career discovery and college preparation. Community ServiceAll our graduates participate in a service of love through volunteering and giving back to the community for six months! This pre-tertiary period is a session of continued self-discovery and learning. Our graduates are placed in different organization in Kibera and its environs based on their career preferences and availability. They volunteer from Monday to Thursday, 8:00am to 4:00pm. Immersed into these organizations, they learn how they work, develop interpersonal and social skills, network and grow in empathy. Friday’s are fun moments, they meet for group reflections, sharing and catchup over a cup of tea. Reflections are moments of enlightenment, acknowledging the sufferings of our community and applauding one another for their selflessness. Community service volunteering comes to a close at the end of June with a short ceremony of the Holy Mass, issuance of certificate of service and a shared meal!Career guidanceWith so many career options, prospective pre-tertiary students can feel overwhelmed. We understand that each student is unique and the importance of finding a path that aligns with their passion and interest. The program offers career counselling which guides students in exploring available options, identifying emerging trends and shift in the job market.Tertiary ScholarshipsAfter our graduates have completed the community service and gone through career guidance, they are enrolled in various universities.
